HYKE Gin:

Created with our mission of producing premium spirits with a focus on using otherwise unused resources.

Many of Britain's table grapes are imported from countries like Egypt, South Africa, and Chile. During the packing process grapes are cut, trimmed, and separated to fit into punnets, leaving behind thousands of tonnes of loose grapes that can no longer be sold as "fresh”.  

Foxhole Spirits and fruit importer Richard Hochfeld Ltd thought these grapes could be reinvented in a different, more delicious way. Together, we came up with an ingenious solution that turns surplus grapes into HYKE Gin. 

HYKE Gin is a London Dry Gin made using grape spirit produced from internationally sourced, fresh table grapes that are surplus to the requirements of the supermarket supply chain. The grape spirit is blended with grain spirit and flavoured with a blend of botanicals inspired by the grapes’ global origins, including, juniper, myrrh, nigella seed, rooibos, cumin, bay leaf, green cardamom, black cardamom, coriander, angelica root, angelic seed, orris root, liquorice root, aniseed, and lemon zest.

HYKE Gin is bottled in a modern take on the traditional Gin bottle, inspired by the geometric patterns of traditional African textiles.

Tasting Notes:

Nose 

Superbly complex; a nose of zest citrus peel and coriander leads onto flavours of vanilla, resinous juniper and cedarwood.

Palate

Delicate woody juniper leads, met with a hint of liquorice and slightly bitter citrus. Warming piquant spice marries with aromatic cardamom.

Finish

The finish is long with the warmth of spice playing with remnants of citrus.

 

Perfect Serve:

A HYKE G&T is not your average G&T. Its unique botanical recipe makes it citrussy, floral and delicately spiced. Garnish with lemon and a sprig thyme to bring out all of those delectable notes.  

Ingredients

50ml HYKE Gin
Tonic Water
Lemon Slice
Fresh Thyme Sprig

Method

Fill a glass with ice cubes, pour in 50ml of HYKE Gin and top up with chilled tonic water. 

Garnish with a slice of lemon and sprig of thyme.

The Spirits Hub Review:

HYKE Gin is made with botanicals of both African and South American origins, including coriander, myrrh and rooibos, a herbal tea.

On the nose HYKE is lively, aromatic notes begin with spice and an underlying earthiness.

Warming spicy citrus is present throughout, with muted aniseed, floral vanilla and of course piney resinous juniper.

On the palate the gin is full and silky, it begins with juniper taking the lead, nutty notes and a touch of citrus bitterness.

Spiciness sings away in the background amongst plenty of fragrant cardamom and herbal notes with rooibos giving the gins flavour profile a harmonious balance.

Although this gin has a delicate balance between its botanicals the finish is long with the warmth of spice and zesty citrus lingering.
